We hypothesize the existence of instincts that result in two classes of display by members of a group, one for identifying members of the group and one for identifying members of what is, in some sense, an enemy-group.

Aposyns are utterances that mark an uttering individual as probably a member of that group.

Aposcats are utterances that when uttered by a member of a group A mark some other individual as a member of a group B that is an enemy of A. (B might not be as well-defined in A as A itself is)
